Jessica was asked to re-design a tired ensuite for this busy couple in their gracious and timeless architectural home which is an interesting mix of contemporary design with Cape Cod detailing. It is positioned in a stunning rural setting with views to the Manukau Harbour.
Key Design Features and Benefits
- The challenge in designing this bathroom was working with the ceiling heights to create a spacious and practical layout.
- Due to space in the dormer, the toilet remains in the existing position. Natural light shines though to the wider ensuite.
- The solid oak legs and slatted shelf were designed to create an open and spacious feel, and to repeat a similar effect to the lattice design of the stairwell balustrade and atrium. The classic and quality materials along with timeless design of the vanity represent and reflect the proportions and detail throughout the home.
- Towers were designed for ergonomic extra storage either side of the vanity, and house PowerPoint’s for the client’s electric toothbrushes and hair dryer. This also overcomes the issue of the width of the dormer, as the wall only returns 245mm. Due to the line of the ceiling the top portion of the right hand tower has a void, and has been designed for the mirror to run through and create a clean line. The same portion of tower is detailed on the left-hand tower, by a groove.
- The vanity was repositioned on the adjacent wall for visual impact on first impression and to create more floor space.
- The shower was kept in the existing position but increased in size, was shaped to 45 degree angle and to make the room feel more open, spacious and create a natural walk way to toilet, and hence repeating the angular shapes above with the ceiling lines.
- Small luxuries of under floor heating, heated towel rail, mirror demisters and ventilation were integrated to make the new ensuite more enjoyable, comfortable and functional.
- A greyed colour palette gives the room a tranquil feel and works well with the crisp white vanity top and textured black stained oak cabinetry. The light fittings add a touch of glamour to the vanity adding to the luxurious atmosphere.
