Whangamata Bach
Designed by Andrea Burney & Claire Bruford, this 1980s bach has been thoughtfully transformed into a warm, contemporary coastal retreat, blending relaxed beachside living with subtle Japandi influences and a deep connection to Japanese design.
Natural timber tones, muted greens, fluted detailing, and carefully selected stone finishes create a calm, layered palette. A concealed snack-station pantry sits behind Hettich WingLine bifold doors, keeping everyday items easily accessible but neatly hidden away.
Leathered Sensa Taj Mahal stone, fabricated by The Stone Collective, brings warmth and movement to the island and sideboard, while Dekton Aeris provides a softer, highly durable surface for the hob and sink area, continuing through to the outdoor bar servery.
Carefully considered oak detailing, recycled Rimu window reveals, retained original Rimu doors, and Western red cedar slatted laundry doors all help honour the bach’s original character while giving the home a fresh, refined feel.
The result is a relaxed and beautifully resolved family bach — familiar and cosy, but with a new level of functionality, craftsmanship, and contemporary japandi detailing.
